Small wind turbine MK2 windmill
thingiverse
This is upgraded version MK2 of Small wind turbine, measuring approximately 500mm in length, but it does not produce any electric or mechanical energy at all. I made some key changes to better protect the bearings from rainwater and removed the massive support needed for the print of the first version. Now, only support is required for the blade itself because it is printed in a horizontal position, which results in far better mechanical properties now. The blade and all parts with M8 thread are printed at 0.15mm layer thickness, while the propeller hub with M4 thread is printed at 0.1mm layer thickness. Other parts are printed at 0.2mm layer thickness. I added a spiral groove to the front of the propeller hub, which I think looks better now... The same materials are used for the finish assembly: * 4x ball bearings 618, 628, d=8 mm, D=16 mm W=5 mm * 3x screws M4x20 mm * 7x nuts M8 but narrow DIN439 * 1x steel thread rod M8 cut L=432 mm (the rest is used as a vertical pole) PET-G material was used for the build. The vertical holder is an M8 steel rod, which needs to be fixed to a wall or fence pole or... I've also uploaded SolidWorks files of the whole turbine assembly. Next gen will come equipped with a permanent magnets generator producing electricity and some LEDs on blades. Magnets will be fixed in place while coils with LEDs will spin along with the rotor. Hopefully, it will produce enough energy to light up the LEDs. After a storm wind, I found that the vertical holder where there is a hole for the M8 rod was broken. I changed the design of this part and made it more robust by changing its diameter from 15mm to 18mm. I also modified the neighbor parts "front body" and "rear body". All three parts now have number 202, but I kept the older parts' design with numbers 201. I recommend printing the new design parts. The new build settings are: * Layer thickness: 0.16mm * Perimeter: 6x * Infill: 30% * Support only: wall at an angle of 15°
