Small Voronoi Style Lamp
thingiverse
I just found yet another awesome Voronoi style lamp online, so I was inspired to create one in OpenSCAD that would give the creator of the original model a run for his money! I decided to pay homage to Marelov's "Voronoi lamp" on thingiverse.com by taking his idea and running with it in 3D space. I generated a set of Voronoi regions in 3-space, threw in a small rounded gap between them for added visual interest, then took those Voronoi patterns and subtracted them from a cube. To give my lamp some real-world feel, I added a frame and even left room inside for a small LED light source. In the hopes of making things easier for you makers out there, I've made sure this model is completely tweakable in OpenSCAD, allowing you to make your own custom Voronoi design from scratch. All it needs now are some good old-fashioned tweaking and refactoring to get rid of all those pesky magic numbers. One last thing: be sure to adjust the "seed" value on line 46 to get a different set of points - this should give you plenty of opportunities for making something totally new! Just be prepared to wait around two-and-a-half minutes while my OpenSCAD code does its magic; with the current parameters and PC, it's a little sluggish. A special shoutout has got to go out to felipesanches on thingiverse.com, whose 2D Voronoi generator I adapted to create this 3D masterpiece! It's taken me to new heights in my 3D design journey. Cheers, Bob M
