The amazing thing about 3D printing technology is that it lets you make replicas of rare, unusual, and educational items that you might never have a chance to see otherwise. Like this one. This is a late Paleo-Indian to early Archaic projectile point lithic done in the Dalton style. These points showed up all over most of Southeast North America around 8,500–7,900 BC (10,500BP to 9,900BP). They are finely pressure flaked. Heavy resharpening suggests they were often used as knife blades. This particular point belongs to the ancestral proto-Indians of the Choctaw tribe and was dug up near the Tennessee River in Western Tennessee. The item(s) are currently on display at the Department of Anthropology, Indiana University South Bend. It was scanned with a NextEngine scanner.
