Small mammal trap adapter
thingiverse
This device includes attachments for two types of small mammal traps, allowing a tin can to serve as a nesting chamber for any captured mice or voles. One attachment is designed for a Sherman trap, widely used in studying small mammals, while the other is intended for use with a TripTrap, mainly employed to humanely capture mice within buildings. By adding a chamber, more straw and food can be used without interfering with the trap mechanism. For the TripTrap, the adapter clicks into place of the original chamber. To secure the Sherman trap attachment, withdraw the hinge pin halfway back and open the split section. Then, locate the freed-up split side and lock the door under the trip mechanism, positioning the adapter behind the three exposed flaps. As you close the split side, reinsert the pin. Both attachments feature a circular recess to securely hold a standard-sized tin can in place. A larger diameter can should fit snugly around the circumference of the adapter. However, note that cans vary in size and thickness, requiring some adjustment may be necessary.
