Small Lightweight Ornament
thingiverse
This small, lightweight ornament measures 50 mm in diameter and weighs just 12 grams. Perfectly suited for printing without support, its compact design makes it easy to handle. To display or hang, simply thread a string through the top hole and secure with a bead or knot. Inspired by the intricate polyhedra found on the visual polyhedra website (dmccooey.com/polyhedra), this ornament is based on a unique geometric shape known as the rectified truncated icosidodecahedron. Visit dmccooey.com/polyhedra/RectifiedTruncatedIcosidodecahedron.html to learn more about this fascinating polyhedron. The rectified truncated icosidodecahedron boasts an impressive array of faces, including 12 regular decagons, 20 regular hexagons, 30 squares and 120 acute triangles. In creating this ornament, the designers chose to leave the hexagonal faces blank, outline the square and decagonal faces, and individually decorate each of the 12 decagonal faces. For those new to OpenSCAD, a brief explanation of the method used to construct ornaments from polyhedra is included in the accompanying code. This helpful guide aims to assist beginners in mastering the basics of OpenSCAD and unlocking their creative potential.
