Small lathe main spindle
grabcad
The lathe spindle is specifically designed for use in small lathes, such as gang tool lathes. It is intended for use with bar stock up to 25mm (1 inch) in diameter, which is held securely by 5C collets. A hydraulic/pneumatic cylinder provides clamping action, featuring a buffer and pressure reducer to ensure proper holding force. The pulling rod lacks a clamping spring, so a calibrated pressure sensor must be connected to the fluid system to prevent pressure loss. This model is a simplified version without lubrication and with straightforward sealing. Manual operation of the collet can be achieved by modifying the pulling rod or adding a lever collet closer. The spindle can also utilize a front-mounted, manually operated 100mm lathe chuck (DIN6350) instead of collets. An encoder can be added to provide feedback on rpm.
