Small items sorting box with printable innserts
thingiverse
This is Version 2 of a small item storage box featuring 3d printable removable inserts. I utilized Sortimo boxes initially but discovered them to be exorbitantly expensive, making it impossible to acquire the correct insert at hand when required to store something. To address this issue, I designed this version which can be easily cut with ordinary woodworking tools or on a laser cutter. The inserts for this design are 3d printable and subsequent versions will offer both laser cutter and woodworking tool compatible designs. Three different depth versions - 30mm, 60mm, and 90mm - of this box will be created. My laser cutter fabricated the prototype, but there should be no issues cutting it with standard woodworking tools. I utilized Autodesk Inventor to create the project file which can be downloaded in its entirety. I'll design a "build with woodworking tool" version shortly. The internal storage containers are compatible with 3d printing at home or via a professional service, and potentially made from wood as well. This prototype features a base material of 3.6mm plywood. Further testing will determine whether I need to increase the thickness for optimal durability. PS: This is an early stage prototype. Future versions may include enhancements like hinges, locks, and carrying handles, which can be requested via comment below.
