I was in need of replacing the cold start primer bulb on an older small engine and I had found them ridiculous, with a $2 price tag at my local lawn mower shop compared to over $7.50 for a set of three sizes at Home Depot, forcing me to buy more than I needed, all for a small, thimble-shaped piece of plastic likely manufactured in massive quantities per hour by some factory somewhere, which sparked the thought: totally absurd! It seemed, to me at least, that making my own primer bulb from scratch could solve this issue and provide the added benefit of being able to create replacements on demand, perhaps even one that lasts longer than its mass-produced counterpart made of materials that won't disintegrate easily. With that in mind, I began to conceptualize my DIY solution, hoping it would turn out just right.
