Small Bottle Opener
thingiverse
I'm going to add that print to the list. My arthritis makes it a real struggle to twist open those smaller bottles, and I've found some designs on Thingiverse that aren't quite right for my needs. One of them is too big for my machine, while the others just don't fit the bill. So, I turned to 123 Design on my Mac to create one from scratch. As you can see from the photo, the squeeze arm on one side is a bit shorter than its counterpart. I had to shorten it so that it would fit snugly onto my M3D printer's bed, and to my surprise, this asymmetry isn't a problem at all. The longer arm fits perfectly into the palm of my hand, while the first three fingers slide comfortably into the shorter arm. My little finger wouldn't contribute much grip anyway. I designed and prepared the .stl file using 123 Design. I printed it on my M3D printer with the M3D Fio software running on a MacBook Pro. The print settings were PLA, Low Quality, Thin Hollow Fill, no raft or brim, and no support. It took about four hours to complete the print, and I didn't bother cleaning it up for the photo. The tiny bumps along the upper edges of the handles are probably an artifact of the low-quality printing combined with a 2mm filleted edge.
