https://youtu.be/jUT0MmVFGIc This comprehensive three-piece animal welfare kit is specifically designed for small birds with mild chewing habits. The printer produces this kit without any unnecessary waste on its 9 x 5 inch bed. This efficient process eliminates the need for support material and minimizes finishing steps after printing. A split-screw design enables easy attachment to cage bars, securing a stable and safe anchoring point. The cap pinches the wire over a wide area around the screw, eliminating hanging hooks that can trap birds (hooks often get entangled in leg bands or necks). The exterior screw placement prevents pets from removing it and turning the swing toy into a hazardous projectile. The design employs a snap-fit click-together mechanism to connect the split screw to the swing. This allows for vertical printing of the screw, producing optimal threads. However, the swing is printed horizontally, eliminating the need for support material and speeding up the print process (*It's crucial to remove any stringy bits from the print to prevent tangle hazards!). The same snap-fit mechanism used in this design can be found in other designs; run a small tester object to calibrate settings before printing. (More information on printing instructions is provided below.) The perch area features varying thickness to promote good foot health. The changing pressure points against a bird's feet give overused areas a chance to rest. This swing will move with the bird, encouraging balance and providing muscular-skeletal benefits associated with using different muscle groups during swinging. A moving perch presents a healthy challenge for landing, flying, and perching, allowing birds to learn how to rock their body as a cognitive exercise. The thick perch allows for climbing and landing on the unmoving upper portion sideways. The wide and rounded vertical posts reduce trauma if a bird flies into the perch and are easy to see, encouraging birds to fly around them rather than into them like some wire swing posts. The fulcrum of the swing is positioned low, minimizing the arc of the swing and reducing the risk of hitting cagemates during use or after takeoff. The angled links in the fulcrum offer resistance, braking the swing if it swings wildly due to cage movement or a bird's panic. If swinging with enough force, the links will brake the swing and lock it rather than turning it into a destructive wrecking ball. Regularly inspect the links that join the upper and lower part of the swing as they are the thinnest point and most susceptible to chewing through or wear from excessive swinging. If chewed or worn, they can produce an unsafe hook shape around birds. This toy is best suited for soft chewers who tend not to gnaw through soft plastic items. Occasionally check that the cap remains tight.
