The altar originates from Athens, showcasing two distinct faces. One side depicts Hermes as a ram-bearer, while the female figure on the right is likely Aphrodite. This 1st-century B.C. work was inspired by an Archaistic prototype from the 5th century B.C. These altars served a purpose in ancient religious ceremonies, used for offerings and sacrifices to honor the gods.
