Small Airplane Propeller
grabcad
The propeller I crafted for my Continental C90/O-200 was custom-made since no one could provide me with a propeller to dissect for measurements. This propeller type is commonly used in aircraft such as the Cessna 150, which have air-cooled engines. The propeller serves two primary functions: facilitating the plane's movement and cooling its engine. Due to the air-cooling system, the propeller consists of two parts - the inner part cools the engine, while the outer part propels the aircraft. There are two major types of propellers; the first is ideal for lower speeds but provides high torque, while the second type with a more aggressive angle is designed for higher speeds but has reduced acceleration. I plan to create a guide covering my propeller-making experience and crucial considerations, along with some tips. The materials used in propellers like mine range from wood to carbon, including steel at their core. My custom-made propeller measures 1860mm in diameter and does not have an adjustable pitch because the aircraft is small, the engine cannot support it, and it's unnecessary due to complexity and weight implications.
