Smailholm Tower Soars 20 Metres High with Walls 2.5 Metres Thick. The Tower Was Built by the Prominent Pringles Family in the 1400s on the Border. As the Laird's Residence, It Had Cellars on the Ground Floor, a Great Hall on the First Floor, and a Bedchamber on the Second Floor, with Additional Chambers at the Top. Ruined Foundations Remain of an Outer Hall and a Kitchen Block. Smailholm Tower Was Acquired by Sir Walter Scott's Family in the 17th Century and Played Host to Some of Scott's Childhood Years.
