SMA Thumb Wrench Library

SMA is one of the most common coaxial RF connectors and I happen to use them all the time. The wrench dimension is 5/16", which is almost 8mm. The spec usually calls for 4 to 8 in-lbs of torque for these connectors, which is about as tight as you can usually make them by hand. Take note that with a 3d-printed wrench it's possible to over-tighten, so take it easy.

Here I Printed out all the SMA parts I could find and did a comparison:

A SMA Finger-Wrench by Airic
If you are pressed for space this is the nicest compact design, nice fit and finish. The external diameter is very close to BNC, which we all know is the nicest connector for your fingers.

B SMA Finger Wrench by capnmattttt
This design is nice since you can fit it over a cable, but not over adapters.

C SMA Mutter by merlin1031
If you have a ton of space this is the best feeling design and makes it really easy to quickly connect/disconnect.

D SMA Connector 5/16" Thumb Wrench by danstoner71
This is a similar design to some metal wrenches I have seen but it's pretty clunky and has sharp edges around the front. The outer-diameter makes it less useful than a regular SMA wrench.

E FPV SMA Connector Thumb Wheel by k3lf
This cuts into your fingers due to sharp edges. You should use the A design over this.

TL;DR: Use design A or C in a fixed application. B is nice to toss in your SMA toolbox.

I printed a bunch of these for the GNU Radio conference last year as freebies:

License

All of these designs were created under various forms of Creative Commons, so I have relicensed here as the most restrictive.
