slot car wheel balancing jig use the rectangular type slot car magnets supplied in various slot car makes measure the distance between the magnet faces and cut a spare slot car axle 1mm shorter ( in the pic i cut the axle too short so just added another magnet ) using a lathe / Dremel / drill , create points at both ends of the axle ( the sharper the point the better ) also ensure the point is central on the axle , this is essential for correct balancing , a lathe is the most accurate mount the wheel and tire to be balanced , the magnetic forces will hold one end to one of the magnet faces , the other end will be supported by magnetism spin the wheel / tire / axle assembly manually and wait until it stops spinning the heaviest part will come to rest at the bottom mark the top and and then add a little weight ( small pieces of fine solder wire is good for this ) repeat until the wheel assembly spins without any perceivable heavy side patience is required , but very worth it enjoy
