Captain Joshua Slocum's yawl, the Spray, was used for the first solo circumnavigation of the world (1895-1898). The sailing boat, built in the late 18th or early 19th century, was fully restored by Slocum. He altered its sail plan from sloop to yawl by adding a second mast to ease sailing problems in southern regions.
