Sling Stop

Sling Stop

thingiverse

This hunting sling stop is designed for mounting on your backpack's shoulder strap to prevent your rifle sling from sliding off while hiking. Print the sling stop with supports facing down, as this will help keep it secure in place. Removing the support structure can be a bit of a challenge, but using needle nose pliers and a pick should make the process manageable. Once all supports are removed, you can use a torch to smooth out any rough areas and eliminate deformed plastic discoloration. The hole at the bottom of the sling stop is designed for a #8 wood screw. If this hole proves too loose on your print, you may need to try using a #10 screw instead. Additional materials required include an un-coated nail, a torch or lighter, pliers, a screwdriver, and a #8 x 3/4" round head wood screw along with a 1/8" x 3/4" washer. To install the sling stop correctly, follow these steps: First, put on your backpack and decide where you want to place the sling stop. I recommend locating it high up but still on the front of the shoulder strap. Mark this location with a marker. Next, grip the nail head with pliers and heat the shank/tip with either a torch or lighter. Punch the nail through the marked location on the backpack's shoulder strap. Now, put the #8 screw through the washer and then through the back of the shoulder strap. Use a screwdriver to thread the screw into the hole in the back of the sling stop. Be careful not to strip the hole by tightening it too much. Finally, pack up your gear and head out on your hunting trip!
