This is an improved drip catcher designed for Nespresso Pixie machines*. I originally designed it to allow me to place fatter, taller mugs (such as travel mugs) under the nozzle — the original drip tray design has wings that stick out when it's folded up, which means you could place a fat, short mug on the tray or a tall, skinny one in front of it, but others didn't work so well.

This tray automatically tucks away when you place a mug in front of the machine and does not restrict the fatness of your mug to any particular size. Drips are gracefully deflected into the tray beneath the expended pods inside the machine, as usual.

Print Settings

Printer:

MPSMv2

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

100

Notes:

Print with the flat side against the build plate, and use supports.
Use ABS to prevent warping if you want to put this in the dishwasher.
PLA works fine too if you want to hand-wash it. The coffee drips aren't hot enough to cause any significant deformation problems. My first one was PLA and it worked great until it fell through the dishwasher rack and melted next to the drying element. That said, this is a ridiculously inexpensive, fast print, so it doesn't even matter if you happen to melt one or two.

This design probably fits the Innisia as well, since their original drip trays look similar in photos, but I don't have an Innisia so I'm not certain. Please let me know if you try it.

How I Designed This

This was modeled in Shapr3D (only available on iPad Pro). It's an incredibly intuitive CAD app.

I originally modeled an almost exact replica of the stock drip tray and tried simply removing the obstructive wings. At some point, I realized that the original tray is both difficult to print and includes features that are unnecessary for my kitchen situation. I didn't need the mug to sit on the drip tray.

I went through a few iterations, many of which had more supports/structure, but I found it wasn't necessary, so I ended up with this very minimalist, functional design. It's also beautiful if you ask me, but I'm biased. ;)

Category: Kitchen & Dining
