Slim Dual Vortex Fan Duct
thingiverse
This is a slimmer version of our dual vortex fan duct. A vortex pattern moves air around the extruder nozzle rather than directly at the nozzle, ensuring that fresh cool air from outside the extrusion area hits the melted filament rather than the extruder nozzle. Variations of this design will accommodate standard MK10 hot end, Micro Swiss All-Metal MK10 hot end, and the longer Qidi X-Pro hot end. Additional Parts: - 40 x 10mm blower fan. Get the 0.1A version, not the 0.06A version. - 2 of 22 awg phone wire butt splice connectors (shown in last picture) - 2 of M2 x 16mm button head screws and nuts - 2 of M3 x 25mm button head screws. Preparations: - Start bed leveling procedure on the printer - Measure distance from top of print bed to bottom of carriage near the screws holding the extruder in place. - Print the 15mm fan duct for distances of 15 - 16mm. - Print the 17mm fan duct for distance of 17 - 18mm. - Print the X-Pro fan duct for the original Qidi X-Pro hot end with distance of 23 - 24mm. Also print the corresponding X-Pro mount. Installation: - Cut off the wires of the factory-installed fan, - Attach wires of the new 40 x 10mm blower fan using 22 awg phone wire butt splice connector. No solder required. - Insert the 40 x 10mm blower fan into the new fan duct. Fasten using M2 x 16mm screws and nuts. - Remove the dual extruder assembly from its carriage. - Mount the fan duct onto the carriage and extruder using M3 x 25mm screws. Use washers to provide larger grip surface. - After everything is installed, The fan duct should be 3mm above the print bed for the 17mm version and 2mm above the print bed for the 15mm version. Otherwise, adjust by ±1mm in your slicer and make another print. Installation for the original Qidi X-Pro hot end: - Attach 40mm x 10mm blower fan as instructed above. - Pre-insert M3 x 16mm button head screws into center hole of each mount piece. - Attach mount piece to fan duct with M3 x 16mm flat head screws. - Attach fan duct with mount to carriage and extruder with the pre-inserted M3 x 16mm button head screws. - After everything is installed, The fan duct should be 3mm above the print bed. Otherwise, adjust the mount by ±1mm in your slicer and make another print of only the X-Pro mount. Updates: - v2: fixed corner columns to fit in the recess of carriage, also improved ventilation on left side.
