Quick and easy fan-adapter from 40mm to 30mm is a convenient option. It's only 10mm thick and features alignment at two edges. I paired two of these adapters (one mirrored) with the thing found on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2750991. Printed in PLA, I used a layer height of 0.2mm and added support for this setup.
