When my wife and I bought our house, it came equipped with a flimsy 1" pipe that was lodged in the doorway to deter individuals with questionable motives from slipping inside undetected. The makeshift barrier looked shoddy and presented a constant annoyance as it frequently fell out of place, necessitating frequent adjustments. To rectify this issue, I designed and built a pivoting doorstop that automatically retracts when the door is opened and securely attaches itself to the door frame when in use. To create this solution, I utilized a 1' pipe, carefully cutting it to the precise length required for the space between the supporting bracket and the door. A further reduction of approximately 0.25 inches ensured a snug fit. Additionally, I employed a readily available 1/4-20 carriage bolt paired with a wing nut to complete the assembly.
