Sliding Filament Collector/Catcher Drawer

Sliding Filament Collector/Catcher Drawer

Are you tired of cleaning up after your 3D printed parts only to have bits of filament scattered everywhere? Not anymore! I've created a simple drawer that slides out from under my desk or table, catching all the plastic scraps in a convenient shopping bag. My main goal was to prevent my dogs from eating any stray filament. I designed this project on an SeeMeCNC Orion printer using a .3 layer height for speed over aesthetics. Supports were used on the arms and sliders, while a raft helped secure the rails during printing. The files are available in both full plate format and individual parts, allowing you to print exactly what you need. My Orion's reliable print area is 150mm by 240mm, but even larger plates worked without issue. For smooth movement of the sliders against the rails, I applied petroleum jelly as a lubricant - other options could also work in a pinch! If all else fails, a small amount of KY might do the trick. To keep the bag securely in place, especially when it's empty, I use a rubber band wrapped around where the arms attach to the sliders. The entire assembly is held together with #6 screws and nuts.
