Slide-on ball bearing spool holder for Ikea Lack table
thingiverse
The design fits snugly on the edge of an Ikea Lack table and features holes for screws, although the friction fit has been surprisingly effective so far. This particular model utilizes a pair of 608 skateboard/fidget spinner ball bearings and PVC pipe to create a sturdy spindle. Two distinct "bearing adapter" files are available - one specifically designed to fit inside standard 1in schedule 40 PVC pipe, as showcased in the accompanying pictures. The other file is intended for use with 3/4in PVC pipe, but has yet to be printed or tested. Following several days of regular use, I noticed that the design turned so effortlessly it was starting to come apart on its own. In response, I created a filament guide to complement the original design and ensure smoother operation. An alternative version for 1in PVC pipe has also been developed, this time without relying on bearings at all.
