Last updated on 2015-05-13After a long wait, I've finally completed some updates to the current design and uploaded the SKP file as v1.1 Changes include:- The bed plate thickness is now 3mm instead of 4mm. I've tried using 3mm aluminum plates, and they're stiff enough to hold heavy objects in place.- The top plate thickness is also 3mm instead of 4mm.- The Y rail holders have been changed. Previously, they were fastened to the top plate, but now they attach to an aluminum profile, allowing us to adjust the Y rail up and down in each corner.- The carriage has been cut instead of printed. I did this because it's easier for me to cut parts than print them (in terms of time), but the old carriage is still fully compatible, so you can choose whichever one you prefer.More updates are coming soon.Update on 2015-03-01Incredible results! I've built the Z axis and tested its capabilities. It moves 2.6kg without any issues. Check it out: Please note that this is a work in progress and not the final design.Project on GitHub: https://github.com/gediminasgu/sli3dr-ultimaker2-reworkThe purpose of this rework is to make the entire bed (20x20cm) usable, change the spectra and geared motor powered Z-axis to a trapezoidal screw and non-geared stepper, and make it look even better! Current modifications include:- The Z axis has been modified using Ultimaker's design with a trapezoidal 10mm lead screw and derlin nut plus two 10mm smooth rods.- The top of the printer has been changed to support point 1, and aluminum sheets have replaced printed parts.- A full heated bed has been installed, increasing the printing volume to 200x200mm. Done.- Homing switches have been placed. Done.- The design has been dressed up in an Ultimaker2 style. Done.Updated on 2015-01-18- I've reworked the Z axis end stopper, and it looks better now.- I plan to unsolder the Full Graphic LCD controller, which will allow for better integration of the screen and controls into the design.- Some minor rework has been done.Updated on 2015-02-01- The design has been made with an unsoldered Full Graphics LCD controller.- Everything is finished down to the last screw and hole.- A prepared BOM (Bill of Materials) is now in place.- It uses the same extruder and spool design as the Ultimaker2, which I think will be useful. You can find the extruder design here: https://youmagine.com/designs/alternative-um2-feeder-version-twoUpdated on 2014-02-21- Today, I'll start building my printer in real life. The initial plan is to have the Z-axis moving, so I need the electronics in place too.- All parts to cut and print are added to GitHub. Check out the link at the top of this page.- Pictures will be coming soon! The final plan includes adding an attribute "WhereToGetUrl" to the model.
