Sleeved tubing construction for Barrychuck's Thing O Matic Z stage mod
thingiverse
This alternative construction method for BarryChuck's Z stage mod on Thingiverse adheres to the original design. It begins by checking the 5/8" and 11/16" drill bits for concentricity before counter boring a larger hole on the wood's exact center using a drill press or mill. Two bearing holes are then drilled, ensuring perfect concentricity with the first hole. Next, 21/32" tubing is cut to desired lengths and sleeved with additional pieces of tubing, which fit perfectly due to the drilling method used. These sleeves are bonded to the tubes using either solder, super glue, or ThreadLock Green. The bushings are inserted into the holes and secured in place with ThreadLock Green before installing them in the Z-stage assembly. Finally, a small overhang on the top tube allows for easy application of setting beads of glue without interfering with the bearing. After chassis fitment, beads of superglue are applied around the tubing to lock it securely in place.
