This figure could have been a prototype created by Andrea del Verrocchio for his apprentices to replicate. As a leading painter, sculptor, and goldsmith in 15th-century Florence, Verrocchio ran a thriving workshop where many skilled artists worked, including the young Leonardo da Vinci. Unlike the closed eyes, the young man's legs are visibly tensed, suggesting that he is indeed alert.
