Sleeping children
myminifactory
William Henry Rinehart masterfully crafted a marble sculpture of two sleeping children that freezes a serene instant in time. A mysterious visitor to the artist's studio at the time claimed that Rinehart modeled the children from life as they dozed, enabling him to meticulously capture their ringlets and chubby hands with stunning precision. Nineteenth-century artists commonly employed sleeping figures to evoke mortality, and images such as this frequently served as grave markers. An early replica of Sleeping Children can be found in Green Mount Cemetery in Baltimore, on the family plot of the artist's patron and close friend, Hugh Sisson.
