Sleeper constructed railway buffers for coal yard

A precision-cut OO scale replica of a sleeper-built buffer stop to cradle coal is now ready for use on my miniature railroad layout's small coal yard. Constructed from 3mm birch plywood, this intricate model was carefully crafted using laser cutting technology. The accompanying design files include two supporting pieces that will be glued inside the sides of the model, serving as a base to attach the coal reservoir. These additional components were strategically cut to ensure a secure bond between the 'table' and the coal. The blue layer in the DXF files was etched using a 50W laser at a speed of 100mm/s with an intensity setting of 20%. This precise process created a subtle separation between the timbers, adding depth and realism to the model. To further enhance its authenticity, I incorporated old bolt holes into the design. Following the assembly process, I began applying distressing techniques to the edges and joints of the model, creating a weathered appearance that will be perfectly suited for painting. During the cutting process, I intentionally sliced through the sleepers, leaving a 0.5mm gap at the top - although 1.5mm would have been ideal, the coal reservoir will effectively conceal this minor error. If I were to recreate this model, I would consider widening the buffer bar for added stability. My next project involves crafting low-profile coal staithes for the yard, which will be a valuable addition to my miniature railroad layout.
