Sleep Traning Rocket Clock
thingiverse
This is a basic sleep training clock designed specifically for my 3-year-old child. My wife discovered a product online that closely resembles a standard clock, and when I saw it, I immediately thought of creating my own instead. After searching online for similar ideas, I found an Instructable by thijsv that served as the basis for many of the electronics used here, but mine is significantly simpler since I only required two LEDs. The code is a heavily modified version of that project, and I'd like to thank thijsv for sharing the details of his project, which enabled me to create this successfully. The rocket window lights up with a star and moon design after 7:30 pm, and at 7 am it changes to light up the rocket smoke trail, indicating that my child is allowed to get up. The rocket can lift off its base and be played with, and can freely rotate if desired to aim the light away. On our first night using this setup, it was a huge success, with my child running into our bedroom at 7:01 am saying "My rocket says it's morning time!" There's an Arduino Nano inside with a budget-friendly real-time clock and two LEDs. I printed the parts in a mix of 0.2 and 0.1mm layers, using 0.06mm for the engine and porthole. Most components don't need supports except for the porthole (printed facing up) and smoke (only required for the Arduino holder part). I used a plastic milk bottle to create a diffuser to stick over the window shade and soften the light coming through the window. The wiring is as shown in the diagram, and construction details are visible in the cutaway image. Ensure that the top LED is flush with the post to allow the rocket to sit properly on its base; the lower LED's position doesn't matter much, but try to keep it near the engine bell for a more authentic look. Required components: Print one of each part, except for 3x fins and 2x light posts. Arduino Nano 1307 RTC 5mm Night LED 5mm Day LED 2x resistors (I used 220k) wires USB cable for Arduino programming/power (I used an old phone plug for USB power) Diffuser plastic (plastic bottle) Glue edit: Uploaded the correct code.
