Skyward Sword Banded Shield

Skyward Sword Banded Shield

Tottally inspired by "Zelda Skyward Sword" Playing the game again recently, I saw the banded shield and just had to create my own copy. For the free Wooden sword design, check it out here www.thingiverse.com/thing:5364448 (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5364448) All pieces are designed to fit on a Cr10 build plate, and may need to be cut to fit on a smaller printer. The wooden pieces are keyed in order to slide the sections together and add some stability when assembled. The ortimental bird is printed flat on the build plate then glued on the front of the shield. For the leather stap on the back I ordered a 12 x 12 Cow hide piece of leather that was 2.8mm thick https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086N151Z1?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_VJTXG08F69K8S1YRKF9Z I used a .6 nozzle to print out the wooden pieces at .28mm layer hight. With a 10% infill it required slightly over 1 spool of lighter wood PLA and 3/4 spool of darker wood pla. You will need to print 4 "Band BL" pieces and 8 ""p1 Bottom pins" The pins should press in the band piece snuggly, but if its too tight try scaleing the pin down in the x and y axsis by a percent or two. With all the wood pieces printed out along with the band and pins assemble the pins in the band first. Then asseble the wood pieces together. You will need both hex keys printed to attach the three center light wood pieces to the adjoining dark wood piece. As your assembling the wood pieces together you should be able to snap the band pieces in place around the outside creating a solid shield. Working on the back of the shield, I put together the handle first. Insurted the handle plate pins into the shield, then added the handle plate. I glued the two short rod lenght pins into the shield then pressed on the completed handle. To complete the leather piece I glued the leather pin inserts in the back of the shield. Taped two pieces of paper together, then taped one end of the paper to the top of the shield. I layed one arm on the shield grabbing the handle, put the paper over my arm and taped it to the bottom of the shield. After pulling my arm out I used a pencil to shade over the hex pins marking thier location. I then pulled the paper off the shield and drew the basic shape of the leather piece. After cutting out the shape and testing it out on the shield, I used the paper to trace the shape on the leather and cut it out. The leather pin caps glued on the top of the pins should be enough to keep the leather in place. I would highly recomend useing PLA Gloop to glue all the pieces together. I used almost a full 4oz bottle to complete this sword and shield collection. If you need any assistance on assembly please let me know.
