Skydome HDRI - Stardust Sky
3docean
Introduction The Skydome HDRI-brand is a collection of high-dynamic range images that showcases only the sky-portion of an outdoor setting. Typically, the qualities selected under this brand are cloudy and detailed skies with natural exterior lighting conditions and no artificial sources. Description A beautiful starlight sky with a sun glowing from beneath the horizon is featured in this HDRI. The unique feature of this HDRI is the presence of nebulae, which are fluid-simulated in 3D and rendered out as 32-bit floating-point format to retain the HDR-nature of the panorama. Only the top half of the HDRI-sphere is shot, so if using VrayLight with Dome-setting enabled, leave the "Spherical: full-dome" unchecked. Resolution The massive resolution of 12272×3472 allows for direct rendering from the viewport with considerable detail (tested with up to 8000 pixel wide renders). Backplate An enhanced backplate is supplied, showing more stars and better quality. The suggestion is that the HDRI-file is used to generate illumination, and the JPEG-backplate is used for the visible background. Exposure Three-step 2-EV settings were used via the Magic Lantern HDR-Bracketing Feature. HDR-rig A DIY no-parallax rig was built on top of a "basic" tripod. Camera The Canon EOS 60D camera was used to capture this HDRI. Lens The Samyang f3.5/8mm fisheye lens with 180 degrees of horizontal field of view was used to shoot the image. Usage HDRI-images are often misunderstood in terms of their usage. They are actually used in various 3D-formats to produce physically accurate lighting, recreating the exact conditions present in the scene captured from the panorama. The most common usage is for achieving lifelike light conditions in architectural renders, but they can also be used to breathe life into your 3D-scenes, taking them from ordinary renders to hyperrealistic ones.
