Introduction The Skydome HDRI Collection is a showcase of high-dynamic range images that focus on the sky portion of outdoor settings. This selection primarily features cloudy and detailed skies, all captured under natural exterior lighting conditions without artificial sources. The collection retains all spheres of natural lighting. Description A breathtaking starlight sky with a sun rising from beneath the horizon stands out in this HDRI. A unique feature is the inclusion of nebulae, which are fluid-simulated in 3D and rendered as 32-bit floating-point format to preserve the HDR nature of the panorama. Only the top half of the HDRI sphere is captured, so when using VrayLight with Dome-setting enabled, ensure "Spherical: full-dome" remains unchecked. Resolution The massive resolution of 12272×3472 allows for direct rendering from the viewport with considerable detail (tested with up to 8000 pixel wide renders). Backplate An enhanced backplate is supplied, featuring more stars and improved quality. It's suggested that the HDRI file be used for illumination generation, while the JPEG backplate serves as the visible background. Exposure 3-step 2-EV settings were achieved through the Magic Lantern HDR-Bracketing Feature. HDR-rig A DIY no-parallax rig was constructed on top of a basic tripod. Camera The Canon EOS 60D camera was used to capture this scene. Lens The Samyang f3.5/8mm fisheye lens provided a 180-degree horizontal field of view. Usage HDRI images are commonly misunderstood in their application. They're utilized in various 3D formats to produce physically accurate lighting, recreating the conditions present in the scene captured from the panorama. Architectural renders often benefit from lifelike light conditions achieved through HDRI, but they also enhance 3D-scenes by bringing them to life and elevating them beyond ordinary renders.
