Skydome HDRI - Brooding Clouds III
3docean
The Skydome HDRI collection showcases high-dynamic range images that capture only the sky portion of an outdoor setting. These images typically feature cloudy and detailed skies, with natural exterior lighting conditions and no artificial sources. The lighting is captured from all angles, resulting in a comprehensive representation of natural lighting. Brooding clouds are captured in exquisite detail for image-based lighting. Since only the top half of the HDRI sphere is shot, users must leave the "Spherical: full-dome" checkbox unchecked when using VrayLight with Dome-setting enabled. The massive resolution of 12064×2846 allows the sky to be rendered directly from the viewport with considerable detail. This level of resolution has been tested and proven effective for renders up to 2000 pixels wide. For better compositing freedom, 18 megapixel processed backplates are included. These backplates were captured using an 8mm Samyang fisheye lens and have undergone distortion correction. A 7-step 2-EV exposure setting was used to capture the HDR images via the Magic Lantern HDR-Bracketing Feature. The DIY no-parallax rig, mounted on a basic tripod, ensured precise camera control. The Canon EOS 60D camera was paired with a Samyang f3.5/8mm fisheye lens, offering an impressive 180 degrees of horizontal field of view. HDR images are often misunderstood in their usage. In reality, they are used to produce physically accurate lighting in various 3D formats. This allows users to recreate the lighting conditions present in the scene, which were captured from the panorama shot. HDR images can be used for a range of purposes, including architectural renders and 3D scenes. For more information on HDRI, visit northlogicvfx.com. The site provides an in-depth look at HDRI usage in general, as well as specific guidance on using HDRI in 3DS Max and VRay. Note that the backplates provided have been processed to remove excessive curvature caused by the 8mm Samyang lens.
