Skydome HDRI - Brooding Clouds II

Introduction The Skydome HDRI-brand represents a collection of high-dynamic range images, showcasing only the sky-portion of an outdoor setting. Typically, the qualities chosen under this brand are cloudy and detailed skies. The lighting-condition is natural exterior lighting, with no artificial sources, capturing all spheres of natural lighting. Description Dramatic clouds captured in high detail for image-based lighting. Only the top half of the HDRI-sphere was shot, so when using VrayLight with Dome-setting enabled, leave the "Spherical: full-dome" unchecked. The treeline is retained for better horizon alignment. Resolution A massive resolution of 13208×3658 allows the sky to be rendered directly from the viewport with considerable detail (tested with up to 2000 pixel wide renders). Backplates 18 megapixel processed backplates (distortion straightened from the 8mm Samyang fisheye lens images) are included for better compositing freedom. Exposure 3-step 2-EV settings were used via the Magic Lantern HDR-Bracketing Feature. HDR-rig A DIY no-parallax rig was built on top of a "basic" tripod. Camera The Canon EOS 60D was used as the camera. Lens The Samyang f3.5/8mm fisheye lens with 180 degrees of horizontal field of view was employed. Usage It may be unclear what HDR-images are actually used for. They are used in various 3D-formats to produce physically accurate lighting (to recreate the lighting conditions present in the scene which from the panorama was shot), for various purposes. I can say that the most common usage is achieving lifelike light conditions for architectural renders, but also for your fantastic 3D-scenes where you want to breathe a bit of life into the images, bringing them from merely ordinary 3D-renders to the hyperreal domain.
