Sky Island

Sky Island

One of my longer projects: The Sky Island. Also known as floating islands, these mysterious islands defy gravity and float high above the ground, out of reach for mere mortals. Now you can create your very own! Video with time-lapse and model assembly: https://youtu.be/fVoMcfPLBqA This model comes with a couple of options. You can choose to have it sit proudly on a base with a bearing, allowing it to rotate effortlessly on any table or shelf. Alternatively, you can print the tree crown with a loop for hanging the model high up in the air, just like these mystical sky islands are meant to be. The island part is hollow and the city part is partially hollowed out, allowing light to shine through while still being completely printable without support. For assembly, simply print the pegs and use them to secure the city part as a lid, giving you easy access whenever you want. How well these fit will depend on your printer's precision, so be prepared to scale up or down if needed. You can also opt for a more permanent solution by gluing everything together. I initially planned to add a motor that would allow The Sky Island to rotate, but unfortunately, supplying power to a rotating object proved to be a bit more complicated than I anticipated. Due to safety concerns, I'm choosing not to release the prototype, leaving its long-term safety risks uncertain.
