A fairly basic blended wing aircraft with V-tail is taking shape as a solid form. Plans are in motion to break it down into sections with the goal of making a flyable model sometime in the future. --- Edit 12/16/2016 --- The base mesh has been updated, and the tail is now welded into the mesh, creating a closed manifold object. The next step is resizing and hollowing out the model. To keep things organized, I'll leave the current base mesh file intact and post updates in additional files. --- Edit 12/20/2016 --- Some preliminary parts are starting to take shape as early separated components. At this point, they're just the outer shell. The question remains whether this is an adequate thickness for the outer skin - some feedback would be greatly appreciated. It's worth noting that images of flyable models show varying levels of thickness, with some being fairly thin. Another .blend file has been added to give an idea of what the component mock-up might look like as progress continues. --- Edit 12/25/2016 --- Merry Christmas! Some minor progress has been made. The focus is now on modeling interior support structures for the hollowed out shell pieces. While Boolean operations can do a lot, getting everything cleaned up still requires manual work - that's what I'm working on right now. https://youtu.be/kw1ZJXhMSLE --- Edit 1/1/2017 --- A new year is already underway! The next variant of the nose has been added to the .STL files, featuring a motor mount and some basic ventilation. --- Edit 1/14/2017 --- A test run was done since I discovered Cura is open source. Although I don't have a 3D printer yet, an inner wing section from the .STL file fits nicely into the box for Utilmaker 3 in Cura without any obvious errors. Some other components may be too big for most printers, so I might need to adjust the breakdown again. I'm still learning as I go - this is quite involved. The better-known 3D-printed planes likely have a team of people working on them, which would be great to collaborate with. Anyone up for some collaboration work on this project? By the way, the gcode file from that test has been uploaded.
