Skull Mug
thingiverse
I printed a test piece of the original design, but I wasn't feeling the handle's shape. So, I imported the skull into Meshmixer and started playing around with it. I created a more "organic" handle that was larger and had a bone-like texture, and I pulled the Mastoid Process (the pointy side bone) back towards the handle to give it more stability. This is a fresh upload, and I haven't even printed it yet, but I suspect some sanding may be needed to level out the rear tabs. Edit: The first printing went well, and I still need to tweak a couple of things, but overall, I'm satisfied with how it turned out. The new handle is larger than the original mug, and I've posted a side-by-side comparison for reference. Edit Edit: I smoothed out the handle a bit more to reduce the seam between the handle and the cup. Edit Edit Edit: I used Maker Geeks' Raptor PLA in their "Khaki, Non-Khaki" color, which is similar to their "Urban Fossil" PLA. This material is 15% larger than the original file, using Cura's settings with 3mm walls and 30% infill, making it a substantial mug. Now I need to anneal it, sand it down, and give it a coat of food-grade epoxy. Edit Edit Edit Edit: Since posting this project, Maker Geeks' issues fell through, and I could no longer get their products or respond to customer service. I re-printed the entire project using Push Plastics' "Desert Tan" in PETG (last photo uploaded), which has a more natural bone color rather than the fossilized look of the previous one. I like the results much better, as it offers more artistic freedom if you want to add paint effects. And since posting this, I switched to an Ender 3.
