This cast of Dr Johann Caspar Spurzheim's skull was given to The Anatomical Museum by the Boston Phrenological Society in 1834. After dying in Boston during a lecture tour due to typhoid, Spurzheim underwent a public autopsy, and his brain, skull, and heart were removed, preserved in jars, and an elaborate funeral was staged for him. His other body parts were cast, then sent worldwide for educational use. The Anatomical Museum's collection of these parts can be downloaded from Scan the World.
