This project was inspired by a project our class did in Design and Model back in 2013. A "skimmer" is a simple ground-effects vehicle shaped like an airfoil which creates enough lift to "hover" above the ground as it travels forward. Feel free to put your classroom 3D printer to good use to demo this model! Print Settings Printer: stepUP Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.25mm Infill: Less than 20% Notes: This was designed to print vertically, and requires a machine with at least 210mm vertical build height (the size of my machine's Z-axis). Use a brim or the design incorporating "adhesion pads" to ensure the part sticks to your build platform. Keeping the mass of the vehicle under ~40g is essential, so print with 1 perimeter and less than 20% infill. Lesson Plan and Activity Example activity with Skimmer; used for hands-on learning.
