This is what I do. I sow stories in the ground, watch them grow into truth. Keep the Gelfling looking over their shoulder, and they won't ever see what's right in front of them. Skeksil, Age of Resistance; season 1 episode 2 The Skeksis, self-proclaimed Lords of the Crystal, were never ones to whom honesty came naturally. They lied, cheated, and schemed against one another on a daily basis, and when they weren't doing that, they were often deceiving the lower creatures of Thar. Yet, no one among their rank was as iconic for their treacherous ways as the Lord Chamberlain, SkekSil. Known to many as "Liar" and friend to an unwise few, SkekSil served as the chamberlain of the castle of the crystal and advisor to the Emperor. He was an avid deceiver, although he wouldn't have thought of himself that way. Instead, he thought of his work as essential, not so much concealing the truth, but more as refining or enhancing it, to better serve the crystal and all the creatures of Thar. A true master politician in its rarest form. Often having a warm, toothy grin, which would even make a crocodile wary, the other Skeksis often took offense to him and his wheedling voice, and were quick to point the finger of blame at him. No one hates a deceiver more than another deceiver. Which may explain why the Emperor keeps him in such high station, and the Chamberlain often relished shoving this fact into their faces, much to his own regret later on, when he found himself needing their aid in some form or another. This never stopped him from greeting them all with a smile and a small gift of friendship if needed. Whenever the Chamberlain was not busy plotting against his enemies or running the Emperor's court, his main duty was to sow mistrust between the seven Gelfling clans, undermine any thoughts or beliefs that might question the Skeksis's power, and further cement their status as immortal rulers of Thar. If he had a virtue, it was probably in pursuing peace with the Gelflings rather than coming into direct conflict with them. Or more accurately, he saw the value of all living things, as being more useful alive to him than dead. If you should ever have the misfortune of encountering this creature, greeting you with his warm, friendly slimy smile and uttering a lulling "Be welcomed, friend", your first and only opinion, is to turn around, run as fast as you can, and hope that it's not too late.
