I'm super stoked to share my latest project - a fresh take on skateboard design that's all about embracing individuality and creativity! As a young designer named Shakief Cassiem, I've always been passionate about creating something unique that speaks to people of all ages. My goal is to push the boundaries of what skateboarding culture represents, while still staying true to its roots. Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I was surrounded by an incredible community of skaters who inspired me to take risks and try new things. From the streets to the skate parks, I saw firsthand how skateboarding could bring people together and foster a sense of belonging. As I began designing my own decks, I wanted to capture the essence of this vibrant culture in every detail. I drew inspiration from the bold colors and patterns found in African art, as well as the sleek lines and curves of modern architecture. The result is a collection of boards that's both eclectic and cohesive, with each design telling its own story. One of my favorite designs features a stunning mural of Nelson Mandela, paying tribute to his legacy and the impact he had on South Africa's history. Another board showcases a vibrant pattern of traditional African textiles, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the continent. My vision is for skateboarding to be more than just a sport or hobby – it's an expression of self and a way to connect with others who share your passions.
