Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer Model: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Project: Custom Six Inch Ruler Objectives We designed this project to give students across schools access to a reliable, portable ruler that they can use in math class without having to purchase one from a store. Audiences This custom-made ruler is intended for students but could be beneficial to people of all ages who need an accurate measurement or assistance with drawing straight lines. Preparation No prior knowledge is necessary to use this ruler except knowing how to read and operate standard rulers. Steps 1.) We identified the problem: What would be a useful tool for teachers or students that we could produce on a 3D printer? 2.) We brainstormed various ideas that might work. 3.) We narrowed down our options, researched existing projects, and determined what was required to create one. 4.) We defined the criteria and constraints for making this project. 5.) We evaluated which of our ideas were feasible. 6.) We decided to make a ruler. 7.) We developed a design proposal to submit to our teacher. 8.) We created the ruler using Inventor software and printed out a prototype. 9.) We reviewed what was printed and determined what needed improvement. 10.) We revised our design based on feedback and resubmitted it for printing. 11.) Our final draft was produced on the 3D printer and posted to the competition.
