The archaeological site of Catalina Huanca was a ceremonial center belonging to the Lima Culture, yet it was also occupied during the middle and late intermediate periods. According to archaeologists Erik Maquera and Milagros Esteban (2014), the site consisted of a main building, seven secondary buildings, two sunken plazas, two platforms, several courtyards, storage units, a stone circular structure, a probable residential sector, and three cemeteries, with two dating back to later periods. The site covered an area of approximately thirty hectares, but only seventeen remain intact today. The primary construction technique used was tapial.
