Sisyphus Clutch Mod

Quiet the Sisyphus by eliminating the gear jumping at the top of the track.

This remix adapts the hub and clutch parts from the Vincent Groenhuis Universal Auto-Rewind Spool Holder and the frame track and gears from his Sisyphus Auto-Rewind Spool Holder.

Print one hub, shaft, and clutch wheel, plus two cogs and two end stops. You will also need two 608 bearings. You also need one Clutch and Dial from the Universal Holder, and one frame and curved nut from the Sisyphus.

The current (7/19/19) status of this project is pretty much "I saw it work once", so feedback is appreciated.

Print instructions

Refer to the Universal Auto-Rewind Spool Holder for detailed instructions on assembling the hub and clutch mechanism.

Briefly, insert bearings into the ends of the shortened hub. Put the clutch wheel on the shaft with the flat side of the wheel against the raised stop on the shaft. Insert the shaft into the hub, with the clutch wheel at the big flat end of the hub. With the Universal dial and clutch set to the '0' position, connect them to the hub. The axle and clutch wheel should spin easily. Press the cogs onto the ends of the shaft.

Place the end stops on the Sisyphus frame at the very top of the track where the gears flatten out, with the small protrusion facing down the track. This locks the cogs so the clutch slips rather than the cog jumping the track.

When placed on the Sisyphus frame, the clutch mechanism should be on the opposite side from the tube holder attachment point for clearance. Orient the frame, hub, and spool and secure the spool with the curved nut.

Place the spool and hub assembly at the very bottom of the track, and rotate the top of the spool toward the top of the frame. Adjust the clutch dial until the cogs climb the track instead of slipping. I found it needed to be in the 12-15 range.
