This little imp is another product of a notebook doodle, born from my habit of interrupting a profile with an architectural or angular structure, often perched atop the head. It always just seems refreshingly jarring. I'm surprised it's taken me this long to model a devil, considering it was pretty much all I used to draw as a teenager after discovering the gothic oddities of Jacques Callot, Albrecht Dürer, and Hieronymous Bosch. And Doré, of course. His devils aren't as charmingly animalistic as the others', but there's something about the way he congregates and arranges them in his prints that I haven't seen done anywhere else. There's something in the way Doré renders his demon wings that's simply indescribable. Pwwka.com Vimeo Artstation
