Siren
myminifactory
This marble bas-relief showcases a siren, a perilous creature from Greek mythology, who enticed nearby sailors with her captivating melodies and enchanting voice to crash on the rocky shores of their island home. Ancient Roman poets situated them on tiny islands known as Sirenum scopuli. In later, more rationalized traditions, the exact geography of the "blossoming" island of Anthemoessa or Anthemusa is firmly established: sometimes at Cape Pelorum and other times in the islands called Sirenuse near Paestum, or in Capreae. All such locations were marked by rugged cliffs and treacherous rocks.
