This is a marble bust finished in 1845 by sculptor Thomas Campbell; it portrays Sir Robert Smirke. Smirke (October 1, 1780 – April 18, 1867) was an English architect, one of the leaders of Greek Revival architecture, but he also employed other architectural styles. As architect to the Board of Works, he designed numerous major public buildings including the main block and facade of the British Museum; He was a pioneer in the use of concrete foundations. This object is part of "Scan The World".
