Between March and September 1939, Nicholas Winton, a 29-year-old Christian British stockbroker whose parents had German Jewish ancestry, coordinated eight trains to evacuate mainly Jewish Czech and Slovak refugee children from Czechoslovakia to homes in Britain. The trains were part of a broader rescue operation launched by the British government from various countries across Europe, known as the Kindertransports.
