Admiral Sir John Ross, born on June 24th, 1777, and passed away on August 30th, 1856, was a British naval officer renowned for his Arctic exploration endeavors. He was the uncle of Captain Sir James Clark Ross, who embarked on numerous expeditions to the Arctic with him, including a notable journey that led them to explore the icy landscapes together. Later, Captain Ross would go on to lead his own expedition to Antarctica. In 1786, at just nine years old, Ross joined the Royal Navy as a first-class volunteer and was assigned to HMS Pearl. Throughout his naval service, Ross suffered several injuries, with one of the most severe occurring in 1806 when he boarded a Spanish vessel; he received wounds inflicted by a sabre and bayonet. In 1850, at the age of 72, Ross embarked on a third voyage to the Arctic regions, this time in search of the expedition party of Sir John Franklin, who had gone missing for four years.
