Sir George Henschel, born in Silesia in 1850, forged an illustrious career as a musician and orchestra founder that took him to the United States where he established the Boston Symphony Orchestra over three years. He then made England his home, launching the London Symphony Concerts and leading the Proms with distinction. In 1893, Henschel was appointed the inaugural conductor of Scotland's Glasgow-based Scottish Orchestra, now known as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. By 1901, he had built a lifelong base for himself at Aviemore, where he resided in his own specially constructed home until his passing in 1934.
